As a Beginning Teacher...

As a beginning teacher, I am now realizing "the real teaching experience" is much different, yet SO worth it!  It's somewhat of a weird feeling that I'm the one in chargeWhat?  I'm finally "adult enough" to be in charge? (ha)  At the beginning of the year, I felt like someone should be telling ME what to do, how to do it, and when it should be done, until it clicked..."whoa, I'm that person doing the telling and they're the former me"!  At first it is a timid feeling that you are in complete control of all those precious little faces looking back at you; however, it is an exciting feeling that you can make a difference in a child's life forever.  While going through school and college courses it is easy to say and write papers on all of the wonderful and multiple tasks teachers do for the students, but SHEW, actually doing them is another story.  As one of my professors in college always said, "if you're doing what you're supposed to be doing, at the end of the day you will be completely drained and have a 'different type of tired'".  I love getting to know my students, not only because I have an interest in them but it also allows me to provide appropriate instruction.  Many times, I find myself getting excited to create lessons and will go out of my way to make them fun and effective to their learning process.  I am more than pleased with my chosen profession and I wouldn't change my decision to be a teacher for the world.

  1. Hey Lyndsey! I also cannot believe that I am in the one in charge of the classroom and that the students look for me for guidance, support, and direction. It is definitely different having your own classroom! I know that you are doing such an amazing job in the classroom. THe students are so lucky to have a teacher like you. Also, I am very thankful to have these classes with you. It sure does make it alot easier knowing I have someone I can turn too! I hope you had a great day today! :)

  3. Lyndsey, I can completely understand where you're coming from. The "real teaching experience" tends to be a bit different than what you expect. My first year teaching I had a long term sub position for a 5th grade. I remember being so nervous that first day but after I got started the kids put me at ease haha I'm sure you're doing a great job!! Keep up the good work! :)

  4. I have not been in a classroom, yet. However I would imagine that having all the kids looking to you for guidance could be slightly overwhelming at first.

  5. I agree it is so different when you're actually the one in charge! I love it, but at times it can be overwhelming! Love the colorful layout on your blog! Good Job!!

  6. Yes!!! I totally agree that it is a different story in an actual classroom. What you learn in college is helpful, but honestly, YOU KNOW NOTHING until you step foot in that classroom. I am excited to here how you will grow and develop in your teaching experiences... ENJOY!!!
